Alphabetic Book Listings: A through D.

The list is sorted by author. If a book has no author it will be alphabetized by the first word in the title (excluding articles like A, An, The, etc.). Due to the extended length of the original Book List, it has been broken down into four pages, A to D, E to L, M to R, and S to Z.

Books will be identified as either hardbound or wraps in the description. Wraps copies can be either paperbacks or oversized softbound books.

Many of the author's names in these lists are links. Clicking on these names will bring up a separate Author Page. The Author Pages are where you will find the most information about books, including bibliographic data, content description, images of book covers, and even links to the author's websites, if available.

Memoirs of a barrister whose career was involved in the defense of some 40 men and women charged with murder. In his early years he also was part of a case against the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, Ltd. and the White Star Line in the Titanic disaster. This case was defending a third class passenger who attempted to sue the companys after he survived the disaster, but two of his brothers did not. The Titanic case covers about 18 pages of the book, but is noteworthy because it is one of the few times that one of the civil cases is detailed.

Religious fiction about a social climbing Titanic passenger who has no use for God. Infamous for decades, Chick Comics are renowned for their over-the-top, ham-handed proselytizing while managing to butcher most of the facts of any story they are telling; often with unintentionally hilarious results. True to form, this title manages to misrepresent most of the story, with gems like Murdoch ordering ‘Hard a port’ and ‘Full speed ahead’ to avoid the iceberg.

The book has been translated into many different languages under the title of the particular language and Titanic. There is Japanese Titanic, Spanish Titanic, Chinese Titanic, etc.

Cochrane, Denis. Titanic: The Marshalls: A Love Story. International Gem & Jewelry Show, Inc. 1998. wraps. booklet. isbn: none. scarcity: very scarce.

The author, in association with salvors, RMS Titanic Inc., was an intergral part of the first and largest exhibition on the Titanic. The exhibition spent six months in Memphis and then moved to Florida. He also is an avid collector of Titanic memoribilia.

This booklet is the true story of Henry Samuel Morley and Kate Phillips. Henry died on the
Titanic, Kate Phillips survived. They had identified themselves on the passenger list under the name "Marshall". The book goes on to relate information about what happened to Kate Phillips after the disaster. She gave birth nine months after the sinking to a baby girl, Ellen Mary Phillips. Kate remarried but had a cruel attitude towards her daughter, supposedly because Ellen reminded Kate of what happened on the Titanic.

They remained estranged for years after Ellen had grown up. It also tells of Kate's attempts at suicide years later, and her going to an asylum in Watford. The illustrations in the book, include photos of Samuel Morley, Kate with Elle (as a baby), the Titanic, artifacts of the Titanic, a picture of Ellen (the daughter) in front of Morley's store in 1992, which was still in existence. There are also some details about Lawrence Beesley.

Conrad, Joseph. Notes on Life and Letters. uniform edition. Lon & Toronto: J.M. Dent & Sons. 1921. hardcover. isbn: 0. scarcity: common.

Notes on Life and Letters is a series of essays by this famous British author, humorist and commentator. He covers a wide range of topics from aviation to plays to war. There are also two chapters on the Titanic disaster, and another chapter on the Empress of Ireland disaster.

The first chapter relating to the Titanic disaster is called Some Reflections on the Loss of the Titanic. In this chapter Conrad belittles the American Senate inquiry, and takes the British Board of Trade to task. But primarilly, the author villifies the concept of the ‘floating hotel’, i.e., ships that concentrate on luxury rather than seaworthiness. He also has a big problem with the massive size the ocean liners had achieved.

The next chapter is entitled Certain Aspects of the Admirable Inquiry into the Loss of the Titanic. Written while the British Enquiry was in full swing, Conrad has a field day mocking the testimony of some of the supposed ‘expert witnesses’. He carries on about watertight compartments, watertight doors, lifeboat davits and lifeboats, amongst other things.
