Books about other White Star Line Ships. This a list of books about individual White Star liners other than Titanic. In order to make it onto this list, the book must be about the history of one specific White Star liner. It is a surprisingly short list. The liners covered include Titanic's sisters Olympic & Britannic, plus the Atlantic, the Georgic, the Laurentic, the Oceanic, and the clipper ship Tayleur.

the White Star Liner Majestic.

Chirnside, Mark. RMS Majestic: The Magic Stick. 1st printing. Gloucestershire: Tempus Publishing. 2006. wraps. isbn: 0752438778. scarcity: fairly common.

From the publisher’s press release:

Laid down and constructed for the German Hamburg-Amerika Line, Majestic was later ceded to Britain’s White Star Line to replace the Britannic, a sister ship of Titanic sunk during the First World War. At 56,000 tons, she enjoyed a long reign as the world’s largest ship. She spent most of her life on the Southampton–New York run but cruised to Canada as well as offering short cruises from Southampton. With sumptuous interiors as well as luxurious restaurants and public rooms, she plied her trade until 1936. Saved from the scrapyard, she was instead converted into a training ship for naval cadets, and sailed for Rosyth as HMS Caledonia, surviving until 1940, when she was burnt out.

With an extensive collection of archive pictures of the Majestic and other ships, including photographs of the White Star vessel’s stately rooms, and striking paintings of the ship in vibrant colour, as well as a fascinating and comprehensive narrative chronicling the life of the vessel, RMS Majestic: The ‘Magic-Stick’ provides a complete history of a ship that was once the pride of the White Star Line.

the White Star Liner Oceanic.

Crawford, Moya. Deep Water. Thomas Reed Publications. October, 25 1999. hardcover. isbn: 0901281832. scarcity: hard to find.

The story of Alec Crawford and his partner’s salvage of the White Star liner Oceanic; as well as other salvage jobs he has worked on.

Martin, Simon. The Other Titanic. 1st printing. Newton Abbot: David & Charles. 1980. hardcover. isbn: 0-7153-7755-8. scarcity: hard to find.

Story of the sinking of the White Star liner Oceanic in 1914 and the salvage operation some 60 years later by the author and his partner Alec Crawford. The ship had sunk in shallow waters, but in an area of wild tidal shifts, and was considered unsalvageable until the author and his partner proved otherwise.

Not a book for the anti-salvage minded individual, although it might help to know the ship was literally torn to pieces after it sank and as such was just a massive pile of debree on the ocean floor.

The first American edition was published more or less simultaneously, also in hardcover, by David & Charles Publishers, North Pomfret, VT.

Martin, Simon. The Other Titanic. reprint. The Shetland Times, Ltd. October, 2004. wraps. isbn: 1904746039. scarcity: hard to find. A paperback reprint of the original 1980 edition, with a new introduction and postscript.

the White Star Clipper Tayleur.

Bourke, Edward J. Bound for Australia. The Loss of the Emigrant Ship Tayleur at Lambay on the Coast of Ireland. 1st printing. . October, 2003. wraps. isbn: 095230273X. scarcity: hard to find.

Starkey, H.F. Iron Clipper Tayleur. The White Star Line’s First Titanic. Avid Publications. 1998. wraps. isbn: 1902964004. scarcity: scarce.

The story of the first White Star ship to be lost on her maiden voyage, the Tayleur tragedy of 1854. The Tayleur was a clipper ship, not a steamer, and the White Star Line at this time was still under her original owners. Thomas Henry Ismay didn’t buy the company name until 1867, so, technically, this is not the same White Star line that owned the Titanic.
