Bisset was second officer on the Carpathia, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors. He later went on to become Commodore of the Cunard Line. This book concerns his personal experiences on the steamships from 1905 to 1912 (it’s actually the second of three books about his years at sea). The last five chapters concern the Titanic.

Bisset, Sir James & with P.R. Stephensen. Tramps and Ladies. My Early Years in Steamers. 1st American printing. NY: Criterion. 1959. hardcover. isbn: none. scarcity: fairly common.

The British, American and Australian printings appear to have all been published more or less simultaneously.

Apparently there has been at least one modern reprint of this book in Great Britain by Patrick Stephens, 1988, hardcover; it includes a new foreword by Walter Lord. Possibly under isbn# 185260140X.

Apparently a book of information and advice for passengers describing life on board the great liners.

This book was apparently reprinted several times in the 1920’s. I have seen listings for reprints in 1926 and 1928. There was a second edition done in the 1930’s. With thanks to Thorsten Totzke for more details about the different editions.
