Howard M(iller) Chapin.

Chapin, Howard M(iller) & edited by Charles F. Heartman. The Americana Collector. Metuchen, NJ: by the author. January, 1926. wraps. isbn: none. scarcity: very scarce.

This issue of the Americana Collector has a five page bibliography of books that had been published up till that time on the Titanic disaster. These were books owned by Howard M. Chapin. He was a passenger on the Carpathia who went on to collect books on the subject. It only lists books specifically about the disaster, so does not include such important works as the special issue of The Shipbuilder which was published before the disaster.

The work was also printed separately, also in 1926, in a limited edition under the title Bibliotheca Titanica (see the following listing).

Chapin, Howard M(iller). Bibliotheca Titanica. A List of Books Relating to the Loss of the S.S. Titanic, Collected by Howard M. Chapin. limited edition. Metuchen, NJ: printed for the Americana Collector. 1926. . isbn: none. scarcity: very scarce.

Chapin was a passenger on the Carpathia and had an opportunity to speak with many of the Titanic survivors. He went on to become a collector of books on the disaster. This is a bibliography of the books in his collection. It is the same list printed in The Americana Collector magazine.

Chapin, Howard M(iller). The Titanic Disaster. limited edition. Providence: A.E. Johnson & Co. 1913. . isbn: none. scarcity: very scarce.

Chapin’s article was first printed in Paignton magazine, Devon, England, in July, 1912. It was reprinted with additions in the Brown Alumni Magazine p238 in April, 1913.

This edition by Johnson & Company was the only time the article was published separately. It was printed in an extremely limited edition of just 20 copies. It is a short, two and a half page decscription of how the Chapins initially became aware of the rescue attempt on board Carpathia, and with a brief description of the actual rescue of the Titanic survivors.
