Site Redesign Begins. Well, the Titanic Book Site.com is closing in on its second anniversary, and a lot of new material has been added over the past two years. The growth has been more organic than systematic, with new content added here, new concepts added there; and although a lot of thought went into the content, not enough went into the organization of all that new material. I felt it was getting more complicated to find information than it should be.

So the redesign begins with a new, hopefully more organized header section and main menu. By grouping related information together, you, the user, should have an easier time getting to where you want to go on the site. The single biggest change with the new header design is that you will notice that the Book Covers link has disappeared. It hasn't really though, it has just been renamed and has now become the Author Pages. All the images of book covers are still there, but now they are accessed directly through the Author Pages.

There have been many minor alterations as well, which you will probably notice as you browse the site's pages. As always, your input would be appreciated. Let me know what you like and/or don't like about the new design. I am always open to constructive criticism. Raving praise is appreciated, too!

There will be information on everything from dependable news to rampant speculation. Have you heard a good book rumor? Drop me a note and share your (fore)knowledge with the world.

The Not-An-Update update. So, have you ever wondered just what is going on at TitanicBookSite.com between updates? Do you think I am just loafing around playing video games? Well, err, um, cough-cough, well No! Of course not! Where ever would you get such an idea. Actually, all kinds of little stuff gets added to the site all the time. Examples are further details about specific books already listed, like a publisher, or an isbn number; new author pages, new book cover illustrations, new illustrators, additional listings in the subject index, new author links in recommended sites - all of these are added on a regular basis without an "offical" announcement. The moral of the story? Do check around the site from time to time. There's no telling what you might stumble onto. Now where did I put that chaingun........

Ken Marschall's preliminary report on his recent visit to the Titanic wreck is available. As most of you know, James Cameron returned to Titanic a few months ago to shoot a new IMAX film. Maritime artist Marschall went along as technical advisor, and personally took part in about a third of the dives. Marschall has now published his experiences in an on-line article in which he describes how the wreck has changed since the Ballard dives in the late 1980s. The article can be found on Parks Stephenson's website, the Marconigraph.com Here is the link to the Ken Marschall article.

The Titanic Book Site.com officially went on-line one year ago today. The site started with the Book Lists, the Subject index, a very basic Recommended Sites page, a Terms & Definitions guide and the Scarcity Rating Scale. Over the year we've added the Title index, the Book Covers index, the search engine and a host of Author pages. There have been 110 new titles added to the Book Lists in the last year; and the Recommended Sites page has been expanded considerably.

Some of the additions I am working on for the coming year is an index to Illustrators, another major expansion to the Recommended Sites page, and (at last!) a Recommended Reading guide. Plus there are some other projects that are potentially very exciting, if I can get them worked out. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, I would be very interested in hear from you out there in TitanicLand. What additions or improvements to the site would be useful to you? Please drop me a note and let me know your suggestions.
