The authors father, also named Sidney, was a third class steward who lost his life in the disaster. The book is the sons view of the tragedy through a personal memoir of someone intimately affected by it.
The first printing was limited to just 40 copies, and was never released for commercial sale. There was a reprint edition in 2001.
