Journal of Commerce.

Journal of Commerce. The Journal of Commerce Report of the Titanic Inquiry. 1st printing. Liverpool: Journal of Commerce. 1912. hardcover. isbn: none. scarcity: very scarce.

I am not exactly sure how this report differs from the formal Wreck Commissioner’s Enquiry. According to the seller of a copy on eBay this was:

“the first official inquiry into the sinking of the Titanic. The reports are published as the testimony was taken, beginning on Thursday, May 2, 1912, from passengers, officers, crew, and officials of the White Star Line. This is NOT the official account of the sinking; it is the testimony taken at an inquiry and preceeds the official account, which differs in some degree from this testimony recorded as spoken”.

Yet May 2nd was the first day of the formal British Enquiry, and all the testimony taken there is indeed included in full in the Wreck Commissioner’s final report. So how and why the Journal of Commerce Report differs from the Wreck Commissioner’s report is unknown to me at this time.

With thanks to Patty Miller and to Tarn Stephanos for details about this book.
