Donald Hyslop, Alastair Forsyth & Sheila Jemima.

Winner of the Titanic Book of the Year Award for 1994.

Hyslop, Donald & Alastair Forsyth & Sheila Jemima. Titanic Voices. 1st printing. Southampton: Southampton City Council. November, 1994. hardcover. photographs by John Lawrence. isbn: 187264905X. scarcity: hard to find.

The story of the disaster and aftermath taken from original first hand accounts both written and oral. The book is also profusely illustrated with photographs, many published for the first time.

I found the format jarring, with the authors’ text conflicting with, rather than complimenting the accounts of the survivors. Still, the volume of information from the included letters and oral histories is enormous. Plus the photographic record in this book is really quite spectacular.

The subtitle on the dust jacket of this edition is The Story of the White Star Line, Titanic and Southampton.
