Format collides with function. The Idiot’s Guide books are meant to be light, humorous books on popular subjects told in a cute and entertaining format. The story of the Titanic disaster is many things, but cute, light and humorous it ain’t. As such the format could not be more inappropriate for the subject. Many readers were distressed to see this tragic topic treated in such a flippant manner. Which is really too bad, because once you get past the format, this is a very informative book full of interesting trivia on the subject.
