Shubow, Leo. Iceberg Dead Ahead!. 1st printing. Bos: Bruce Humphries. 1959. hardcover. isbn: none. scarcity: fairly common.
The International Ice Patrol was created as a direct result of the Titanic catastrophe. Its purpose to see that such a disaster never happen again. Since its inception not one life has been lost due to an iceberg on the North Atlantic, an incredible record. The United States, Great Britain and Canada share in the cost of running this service. The author served on ice patrol duty for a season on the U.S. Coast Guard ship Tampa in the late 1950s.
This book tells of his experiences during that tour. Although Titanic is mentioned in passing through out the book, there is little in-depth information about it. The author mentions Gracies book, but briefly. There is also a short chapter on the memorial service the Coast Guard conducts every year on the anniversary of the Titanics sinking. That practice continues to this day.
