Louden-Brown, Paul. The White Star Line, An Illustrated History, 1870-1934. 1st printing? Norfolk, England: Ship Pictorial Publications. 1991. wraps. isbn: 0951603825. scarcity: very scarce.

An interesting look at the steamships owned by the White Star Line from the author’s collection of photographs and postcards. On most pages there is a picture of a ship with just a few lines of text mentioning the highlights in each ship’s career. Most entries also include the date of the ship’s maiden voyage, as well as its eventual fate. As the photographs are shown sequentially, from the Oceanic in 1871 to the Georgic in 1932, one can really get a feel for the progress in shipbuilding over the roughly 60 years White Star was in existence.

Winner of the Titanic Book of the Year Award for 2001.

Louden-Brown, Paul. The White Star Line, An Illustrated History, 1869-1934. 2nd revised edition. Kent, England: Titanic Historical Society. December, 2001. hardcover. author signed bookplate laid in. isbn: 1903374006. scarcity: hard to find.

A revised edition of this work, and greatly enlarged with new information. Originally it was to be released in the Spring of 2000, but production delays kept it in limbo until it was finally released in December, 2001. It was more than worth the wait. As promised, this is a massively expanded edition, and with truly spectacular color & tinted images through-out. It is by far the most comprehensive illustrated history of the ships of the White Star Line ever made, although the text is somewhat abbreviated to make room for all those awesome illustrations.
