Harrison, Leslie. A Titanic Myth: The Californian Incident. 1st printing. Lon: William Kimber. 1986. hardcover. isbn: 071830618X. scarcity: very scarce.

Leslie Harrison’s book is an important work on the contentious subject of Captain Lord’s culpability in the Titanic disaster. No-one is in a better position to defend Lord, as Harrison has been the captain’s primary defender, both personally and professionally, since 1958. The book is split into two roughly equal parts.

Part one covers the events on the night of the disaster from the point of view of the officers of the Californian: Lord, Stone, Groves & Gibson. This section of the book also serves as a biography of Captain Lord, and as such covers his career both before, during, and after the Titanic disaster. Part two details Mr. Harrison’s defense of Captain Lord. This latter half of the work is not as strong as the biographical half. Harrison’s arguments tend to be rambling. They are not very convincing.

Harrison, Leslie. A Titanic Myth: The Californian Incident. 2nd, revised edition. Hanley Swan, Worcester: Self Publishing Association Ltd. 1992. . isbn: 1854211846. scarcity: scarce.

This second edition of Harrison’s book includes a 14 page epilogue which discusses at some length the March 1992 MAIB Report, which partially exonerated Captain Lord of the charges leveled against him in Lord Mersey’s 1912 inquiry.

The cover art is the same as the first printing.

Harrison, Leslie. The Case for Captain Lord. An Echo of the Titanic Disaster. SIGNED, limited 1st printing. Merseyside: Countyvise, Ltd. 1997. wraps. isbn: 1901231003. scarcity: scarce.

This little booklet is Mr. Harrison’s overview of his defense of Captain Lord, master of the Californian. It is a limited edition, each copy signed by Harrison. The author includes a few short excerpts from one of his books. He also lists correspondence between himself and the Minister for Aviation and Shipping concerning yet another attempt to reopen Captain Lord’s case. The pamphet doubles as a promotional piece for Harrison’s two books defending Captain Lord.

This booklet was also released in an unsigned version, which was not limited.

Harrison, Leslie. Defending Captain Lord, a Titanic Myth Part Two. 1st printing. Great Britain: Images Pub. 1996. hardcover. isbn: 1897817746. scarcity: hard to find.

This book should really be entitled Defending Leslie Harrison as it is primarily about the author and his support of Captain Lord over the years. The first several chapters concern Harrison’s justification of his defense of Captain Lord. Much of this material is autobiographical in nature with any connection to the Titanic or the Californian tenuous at best.
