A letter from Mr. Williams to Ed Kamuda of the Titanic Historical Society was published in Commutator #5, June 1964: "It did not take me long to reach the Boat Deck again, only to find that No. 11 boat was just about to lower away, and I was left on deck. I looked all along the starboard side, and it appeared as if all boats had gone. I turned around to see if No. 13 Boat was there. Yes it's still there; an officer giving orders, and shouting 'Any more women and children?' Some came and got into the lifeboat. The officer shouted 'Lower Away'. I could see there was room for more in that boat, so I made a rush and leaped over the ship's side, and I practically fell in -- that is how I saved myself. The boat was lowered to the water, when we cast off the falls and rowed away. We did not pull far, but just ''laid to.' " Although Williams did not mention #15 coming down on top of them, we had no other information to refute his claim he was in #13. |
