From The Liverpool Echo, March 15th 1956: "Before he left in the lifeboat Mr McMicken helped to lower over six lifeboats over the steep sides of the liner. His boat contained 70 or 80 passengers, mostly women and children. They rowed about 200 yards and then rested on the oars." British Inquiry Testimony of Charles Donald Mackay 10781.
