In Shawneene Whabee's interview in a 1937 issue of The Sharon (PA) Herald, (available at https://abisaab.wordpress.com/stories/a-lebanese-titanic-survivor/?fbclid=IwAR1ODw8qqW-m5hEaHqwe0rwNSnDNg7uVLrjR5KDVATZFnZm6qDgjsCs5c4I) "Sailors armed with revolvers, drove the men away from the boats shouting 'Women and children first'. They shot into the air to frighten the men. Banoura [Ayyub Dahir] and I were placed in the next to the last lifeboat to be lowered from the ship. When it was being lowered, frightened women, fearing it would capsize jumped from it [back onto the deck?].” According to Scarrott, Poingdestre et. al., warning shots were fired at boat #14 (right next to boat #12), crewmen held men back from those boats etc. It appears Miss Ayyub Dahir was in #12, along with Mrs. Whabee. |
